Legoland, Windsor

Yesterday we spent the whole day at Legoland, Windsor with one of Chris’s good friends and his family. It was absolutely mobbed. Not only was it a bank holiday (for people outside the UK, a public holiday), but it was 4 May. As a company with a strong commercial relationship with the Star Wars people, Legoland had a 3 day Star Wars event to celebrate. There were various actors walking around in costume all day in addition to lots of cosplay:

Despite being very busy, given that the vast majority of the people were Star Wars fans interested in the one off Star Wars events like learning to be a Jedi, the queues for the normal rides weren’t too bad. We also had a gloriously beautiful day of sun and blue skies for 90% of our time there. The rides were fun and, for the most part, for all ages (though one of the children we were with was 2 and just a hair short for about 70% of the rides), but I was most impressed with Miniland. There was a Lego UK, plus Lego France, Lego Denmark, Lego Sweden, Lego Norway, Lego Netherlands, Lego Belgium and Lego NASA. Our former home, Brighton, was even included in the Lego England, being represented by the Brighton Pier, Theatre and the Clock Tower in Churchill Square, plus a kebab shop. Check out some photos below:

All in all, I think everyone had a good time and it was a lovely day out. I highly recommend it to both people with children and people like us who just really like Lego. It was naturally on the expensive side, but I think a well done enough park that it was worth the experience. I’m glad we went and it was a great place to hang out with our friends and their children.

The only thing that went wrong was oddly the same thing that went wrong a bit in Oxford on 3 May. It started raining at the very end, but that was alright, due to Chris’s friend having talked us into one final ride, something quite pirate-y, that absolutely soaked us from head to toe anyway. It did involve another car journey home soaked, but fortunately a bit shorter one.

Today is just tying up loose ends, so lots of boring admin and talking to call centres to make sure everything is properly cancelled or in working order before we go. Six days to go till we leave the country!
