Day 147: The ‘Last’ Day

Weย headed across a small bit of Wisconsin to Michigan.

We were absolutely exhausted and we ended up going the wrong way and having to reenter Minnesota and then go back into Wisconsin.

There was very little in the far north of Wisconsin. By the time we got close to Michigan, we decided to just go into the closest entrance rather than the one in a town proper. It was a bit of a cheat, but honestly, tiredness aside, a state with a large failed city is a turnoff. I’ve been to places like Ann Arbor and they are nice enough, but when we were last near the region (Columbus, Ohio), we had decided against going up. We could hardly entirely miss off one of the lower 48 after hitting the other 47 though:

We did speak to one man and two dogs in Michigan, so that is something:

Here’s the video:

We also had a look at the gigantic Lake Superior:

If anyone should like to give us Michigan information or try to persuade us to move there, we are happy to listen.

We headed back south west to get back to my parents’. I must admit we mostly felt do done as soon as we crossed back into Wisconsin for the drive back:

We did see a few things of note however, especially in and around the town of Independence, Wisconsin:

We spent nearly 5 months traveling just over 20,000 miles. We had a look at all of the lower 48 to varying degrees (not a lot of Michigan or Kentucky, but quite a lot of Florida and Texas). We traveled longer and saw more than either of us thought we would. We may have been knackered by the end, but I’m glad we did it as thoroughly as we could with the time and resources we had.

Obviously it would have been nice to go to Alaska and Hawaii, but that would have greatly increased the time and price of the trip. That said, if anyone has any all expenses paid trips to give us, we’d love to go ๐Ÿ˜‰

Even though the trip around the country is done, the HiJenx are far from over. We still have to analyze everything, pick a place and actually go live there. There will certainly be more minor differences to find out about and new cultural experiences to blog about.

Thank you all for reading and watching and stay tuned for more on the rest of our immigration journey.

Congratulations Chris and Jess! Very well done! It’s getting colder here in Rio Rancho, NM. The leaves have turned and we are getting rain almost daily it seems. Let me know if I can help persuade you to move out here ๐Ÿ™‚

Blimey, you must be getting your annual rain allotment all at once. In Onalaska, WI, the past couple of days have been warm for some reason. We’ve also been checking the weather on the list of our favourite regions in the US and it looks like NM is getting down to freezing at night.

Thanks for the support. We drove over just over 20,000 miles – twice what we had planned – and were away for nearly five months. For completeness, we are considering a trip to Hawaii that passes through Alaska.

    Gratulacje ๐Ÿ™‚

I hope you will be posting some updates about chosen place to live in US and where you will be work (RedHat, Puppet LAbs …).

      Thank you!

We will still be blogging (albeit less frequently) as we have some roundup videos and some other bits. Wherever we live, we will have to get there so we may be blogging another thousand miles.

At the moment, we are totally exhausted so I am just watching a wonderful TV programme called Dr. Phil . It is on all the time and it doesn’t require much brain power.
