A Day Trip Down to Baraboo

Today we drove down to Baraboo (which is still in Wisconsin – it’s to the south east of Onalaska) to visit my Grandma. We left after Chris’s latest dentist appointment, which went ok, but not so amazingly that he isn’t going back yet again tomorrow. There is, unfortunately, some road construction between Onalaska and Baraboo, so it took us nearly two hours to get there. I did, however, manage to read a Doctor Who book on the way down and some of the scenery was very nice. This is an area near New Lisbon a little more than half way in between Onalaska and Baraboo:New New Lisbon, WI

We stopped for lunch somewhere I’d gone loads of times as a kid, but had nearly completely forgotten about. This isn’t a food blog, so I don’t exactly want to go on about it, but it was fantastic! I think most memories of Log Cabin in Baraboo have more to do with spending time with family than the actual food, but it was superb. We are still somewhat full even coming up on 8 PM. Even the coffee managed to be filling, since their take on a cappuccino involved fresh whipped cream. It was like having a dessert, speaking of which, Chris tried blueberry pie for the first time, and given his taste for other fruit pies, I was not surprised to learn that he is a fan. It also came with their fab cream. I really recommend this place if you are in the area:2015-05-20 12.56.28After lunch, we spent the afternoon chatting with my Grandma in the home where she now lives. We had a lovely time and she told us stories, for instance, about the time Al Capone left some fish on her doorstep and then went on to go gamble next door when her uncle was living there.

It took us a fair amount of time to get back, due to even more traffic on the way back, so we are absolutely knackered (that would be tired or exhausted in American English – I love the word knackered though and refuse to give it up just because it’s not a word here).

Anyway, we are hoping to rest up and carry on with our massive list of things that need to happen before we can get a move on. See you all soon! xx
