So We’re Going to Build a House

One very long day in early May, we bought a house. Well, more precisely, we bought getting a house built. The house will most likely be done around Christmas and that is when we will actually take possession of it. We did decide to move to Estrella, the master planned community at the bottom of Goodyear.

Before we arrived, we had narrowed it down to two builders, William Ryan and David Weekley.  We spent the morning talking to David Weekley’s rep, only to realize at the very end of the conversation that it was not going to be in our price range. Even though it was getting a bit late considering Estrella is a 55 mile drive from our apartment community in Chandler, we decided to pop back over to William Ryan. We ended up speaking to a man called Michael for about 3 hours. I mention all these times and distances to explain why we are delirious and shiny in the video 🙂

William Ryan have a lot going for them. One thing that immediately caught our attention was that they have Trane air conditioners as standard in their houses and no other home builder we spoke to had had Trane as an option. My dad was an engineer for Trane for years and after having a cheap machine at our apartment community that struggles to cope with some of the 110-120 range temperatures the valley can see in the summer, we wanted something we knew would definitely be better. The particular model we have selected also also has the cool feature of having two separate garages, a two car and a one car, rather than one huge one, as can be seen in the mock up of the house:

This particular illustration happens to be the particular exterior we ended up picking for the real house, too. We went for a lot with this view from the backyard:

Here is the video of the whole mad experience:
