Something that had not even occurred to us as a possibility was use of a garage without renting or owning an entire house. It turns out that although not every apartment comes with one, many are available near the apartments and some are even attached. We are happy with a pool view instead of a parking lot view as that seems to be the cost of having an attached one, but after several months of being on a list, we have a garage that is about a 90 second walk from our apartment! We wanted this for our bikes mainly. Having to take up bikes up and down stairs, especially these fairly narrow, bike unfriendly stairs was, frankly, a deterrent. Now we just got on a tiny walk and, voilà, bikes!
