Day 9: Into the Mountains


We had better weather for our second full day in Colorado. Chris very much wanted to see snow on a warm day so we made our way up into the mountains. We drove through Loveland up into Estes Park, which was a small town that seems to exist as a gateway to the mountains for visitors. We found some very unique stuff along the way and ended up chatting to a member of a cowboy church (see yesterday’s post). It took us quite a while to get all the way to the mountains, but the route up was gorgeous. Colorado lived up to its name as a colorful and generally majestic place:

Just after Estes Park was the entrance to Rocky Mountain National Park. We only did about 11 miles of it, but it took hours since the roads slowly wound around the mountains. We made it all the way up to where the climate becomes tundra. Here are some photos of the way up:
