This video was actually done with the realtor driving and us working from the car, so we didn’t film every single house since we were more than a little distracted. This was a spate of us looking at houses in the East Valley that could reasonably be driven to on a work day. Those houses were either further out or a bit older in most cases. We did film two houses in Tempe and Apache Junction in particular, which you can see here:

It was a crazy week of imagining different futures. There was a point when we thought we might move to the far edge of Mesa, for instance, while at the same time imagining what it might be like to live in Surprise or Avondale or San Tan Valley.

We were introduced to the concept of an Arizona room, which according to Wikipedia is the following:

An Arizona room is a semi-outdoor recreational room found frequently in homes in Arizona, based on similar concepts as the Florida room. The room is often a patio that has been covered and screened-in, creating an outdoor feeling while preventing excessive heat and keeping insects and animals out. The room generally borders the back yard of the house and is often accessed directly from the living room, kitchen or other common room of the home.

We also discovered we are firmly against sunken living rooms, or any other sunken rooms, a feature that was apparently big in the 70’s. We also realize we don’t have any desire to have an indoor fireplace. A fire pit might be nice, but that’s not a necessity for us.

Stay tuned for more next time!

Now, I cannot claim this stretch of videos is as complete as our journey across the country was.
