We headed into rural Arkansas to meet some people who weren’t truckers. We are so clearly on a major truck route at the moment, it’s been hard, but we did find a few in the town of Biscoe<\/a>:

We went into a local shop and managed to not only speak someone, but try one of the things this part of the South is most known for,\u00a0catfish<\/a>. I thought it was quite good really.<\/p>\n

\"2015-08-29<\/a>Next we went to the capital city,\u00a0Little Rock<\/a>. It didn’t really pop for us. Other than the capitol itself, it seemed quite empty. We did chat with a few people, one of which was from the area, and the other was from California but moved there for her grandparents. She told us not to move to Arkansas and that she quite wanted to move back to California.<\/p>\n

As we were leaving Little Rock, we hit the 10,000 mile mark:<\/p>\n

A city they did recommend in Arkansas was called Hot Springs<\/a>, so we headed west to check it out. It was indeed very nice and did have hot springs:<\/p>\n

It also had lots of nature walks in the woods:

We spoke to someone, also from California, who loved living there, but said it was mainly a good place to retire as it was cheap to buy property, but the job market was far from booming.<\/p>\n

Another person, originally from Michigan, said the same thing and said after living in many parts of the country, he loved living in Arkansas because of the nature and cheapness.<\/p>\n

On the way out of town, we stopped by Bill Clinton’s boyhood home:<\/p>\n

It turns out to go anywhere in Arkansas, you need to cross back through Little Rock, which made it quite a long, boring drive back to the eastern side of the state on our way to Mississippi. Arkansas is quite empty in most parts, so it was also hard to find a hotel. Fortunately, one of the people we met in Hot Springs gave us advice. We had been thinking of staying in a place called Pine Bluff<\/a>, but it turns out it is one of the most violent small towns in America<\/a>\u00a0and he looked at us like we were mad when we said we might stay there, so we decided to give it a miss. We stayed in\u00a0Dumas<\/a>\u00a0instead, which the locals say doo-miss<\/em> by the way, not the French way. They have a really lovely well maintained Days Inn there that we highly recommend after one of our better nights recently in a hotel.<\/p>\n
